Smart Meters

Recently there have been a lot of changes in the Victorian energy – some you may have heard about, some you may not. As your energy retailer, we want to help you understand how these changes may affect your household.

A Smart Meter is a small electronic device that monitors your energy consumption in half hour intervals. It collects this information so that you can watch how much you’re using and try to keep it down if possible. It also communicates all your info back to your energy provider.

The Victorian Government, in conjunction with the five Victorian electricity distribution businesses, has approved the mandatory installation of Smart Meters INTO every Victorian household by the end of 2013.

  • Everyone who has an electricity account in Victoria will be charged for the roll out of this program from 1 January 2010, regardless of when their new Smart Meter will be installed.
  • The level of benefit you get out of it will pretty much depend on whether you’re able to shift your energy usage INTO non peak pricing periods.

We’re trying to make it as easy as possible for you to understand what’s going on. We’ve put together a fact sheet on smart meters. Have a read through and if you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call on 133 298 anytime from 8am to 7pm on weekdays or from 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.
